The RRS Sir David Attenborough is a new Polar research vessel built by Cammell Laird and operated by British Antarctic Survey.
This multidisciplinary research platform will transform how ship-borne science is conducted in Polar regions and provide scientists with state-of-the-art facilities to research the oceans, seafloor, ice and atmosphere. MPE are proud to have a role in outfitting compartments on this vessel. We have designed adjustable shelving units in for Forward ship stowage, manufactured using steel, plywood, rubber and finished with grey powder coating. These shelving units are all modular, transported flatpack and assembled using bolts. Additionally, we have fitting timber shelving contouring the Forward hull to maximise space and also fitted mooring rope storage sectioned using pond boards with handle holes.
MPE have also outfitted a number of workshops in the port quarter of the vessel. These workshops are key areas being used daily for repairing and assembling equipment. The areas have been fitted with powder coated steel frames, 30mm marine plywood worksurfaces, adjustable powder coated steel shelving, a range of powder coated steel drawer packs and lockable cupboards.
We have completed work in many other areas onboard, including chemical lockers fitting neoprene sinks for mineral testing and working with Durastic who specialise in flooring. MPE also fitted Corian work surfaces located in the Servery areas.
