MPE was contracted by the Royal Navy to carry out a complete interior fitout of the Wardroom onboard its latest aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales.
With guidance from ship’s staff and Royal Navy, MPE created a luxurious conceptual design using only high-quality materials. These areas all having the same house style such as walnut veneered furniture, polished stainless-steel fabrication, upholstery scoring highly in The Martindale Test and conforming to marine standards.
The requirement was to provide a traditional yet relaxing environment for VIP visitors and Senior Officers. It was our intention to design and manufacture couches and armchairs that would last the life span of the ship. After only two prototypes we created a hardwearing, ergonomic and timeless piece of furniture which fits perfectly into the house style of the concept. The design consisted of easily assembled furniture of approved materials for ease of shipping. To accompany these pieces, we manufactured walnut side tables with a black powder coated steel frame. Working alongside Studio Noam, who helped in choosing colours and furnishings to ensure the furniture complimented other materials in this area. We also fitted Walnut finished Dado panelling to the linings throughout these areas, book-matched quarter cut veneer framed with solid walnut bolection moulding.
The bar was designed and manufactured with stainless steel frame coupled with polished stainless-steel countertops. Associated Cabinetry and facias with walnut finish.
MPE are delighted and proud to have been given the opportunity to work on our country’s flagship aircraft carrier.
